OFFICE MEMORANDUM

Subject: Closed Holidays for the year 2020 - Date for Dusshera regarding.

In continuation of this Department's OM of even number dated 18-6-2019 circulating therewith List of holidays for the year 2020, the undersigned is directed to state that some Central Government Employees Coordination Committees located in different States have sent representations for change in the date of Dusshera (Vijaya Dasami) holiday on 26-10-2020 (Monday) instead of 25-10-2020 (Sunday) in their States.

It is hereby informed that the decision of CGEWCCs located in different States, to declare Dussehra as closed holiday for the Central Govt. Offices on 26-10-2020 (Monday), is not in accordance with the holiday policy of the Government of India. However, Restricted Holiday on 26-10-2020 (Monday) for Dussehra (Vijay Dashmi) can be celebrated by the Central Government Offices, as specifically mentioned in DoPT's OM NO.12/1/2019/JCA 2 dated 18.06.2019, at para 3.1 that "no change of dates is permissible in regard to festivals and dates indicated".

2. This issues with the approval of the competent authority.

Kindly reference is invited to the Executive Committee meeting of CGEWCC held on 10.1.2017 to discuss on the issue of declaring Pongal 14.01.2017 (Saturday) as closed holiday in Central Government Offices in the State of Tamilnadu
2. Consequent to the above the following corrigendum is issued of Closed Holidays and Restricted Holidays for the year 2017 issued vide letter of even no. dated 23-11-2016 for the Central Government Offices in Tamilnadau State as decided in the above meeting.
a. Pongal 14.01.2017 (Saturday) previously declared as restricted holiday is now changed as closed holiday.
b. The additional holiday for Dussehra 28.9.2017 (Thursday) previously declared as closed holiday is now changed as restricted holiday.

In view of Government of Karnataka declaring 15.01.2015, Thursday as Uttarayana Punya Kala-Sankranti festival as also in view of request received from the Co-ordination Committee of Central Government Employees and Workers, Bangalore(COC), Central Government Employees Welfare Co-ordination Committee (CGEWCC) has decided that Central Government Offices in Karnataka will be observing 14th January, 2015 on account of Sankranti as Restricted Holiday and 15th January, 2015 on account of Pongal as closed holiday. This is in partial modification of the earlier communication sent by CGEWCC on 03.12.2014. It is also requested to give wide publicity amongst all the employees that 14.01.2015 is only a Restricted Holiday and not a Closed Holiday.
