HRD Ministry may relax norms for opening new KVs

HRD Ministry may relax norms for opening new KVs

New Delhi: With land scarcity becoming an issue, the Union HRD ministry is considering relaxing the norms for opening new Kendriya Vidyalaya schools.

According to sources, as per the present norms for starting a new Kendriya Vidyalaya school, 10 acres of land is needed in rural areas while 8 acre land is required if the school is to come up in an urban area.
For Metros, 4 acres of land is required.

“There are sometimes issues related to availability of the land. So it is being considered that the present norms may be relaxed,” a source said.

Officials said that the issue has been discussed at the highest level in the HRD ministry including minister Prakash Javadekar and a decision in this regard may be taken in the coming days.

There are over a thousand Kendriya Vidyalayas in the country which are run by the HRD ministry. Often these schools are opened up by the ministry at requests of the state governments.
